One dead after shooting, Fort Myers police seek public’s help with suspect’s vehicle

One person died following a hit-and-run that involved a shooting, Fort Myers police announced Sunday night just before 7 p.m.

Around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Fort Myers police said incident blocked two westbound lanes of Colonial Boulevard at Ortiz Avenue.

Detectives seek public assistance in locating a 2004 Saturn SUV bearing Florida tag “CE50MX.”

Police said in a news release posted to their Facebook page that the SUV is a matte or flat black with distinct stickers on the rear driver and passenger sides. The vehicle has distinct wheels, a trailer hitch with a ball and damage to the rear bumper area.

Officer Kristin Capuzzi, spokesperson for Fort Myers police, confirmed it is the seventh homicide in the city this year.

Police said it is an isolated incident and encourage witnesses to contact them at 239-321-7700 or SWFL Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).

They also encourage anyone who may come across the SUV in question to not approach.
