Erie Cemetery Association shares scary stories during haunted Halloween night tours

With Halloween just three days away, some thrill-seekers got in the spirit a little early Monday night with some scary stories.

Erie Cemetery on Chestnut Street is hosting night tours of the cemetery, visiting different graves and telling scary stories of some people who are laid to rest there.

One urban legend tells the story of the vampire crypt, where a vampire was laid to rest and now haunts the cemetery after sucking the blood of several victims.

But some of the stories tell the deaths of historic figures in Erie, and what ultimately brought them to their death.

“We wanted to reengage the community in our beautiful cemetery and tell some of the many stories that we have, some of our more famous stories being, of course, the vampire crypt and the witches’ circle. We have 52,000 people buried here so there’s a lot of stories to be told,” said Becky Weiser, marketing specialist for the Erie Cemetary Association.
