Staff of a local university has announced they are abstaining from having speaking events for political speakers on campus.
That announcement came out of Mercyhurst University.
Representatives of the university said “they are committed to creating a safe, non-partisan space for students, faculty, staff, administration, and public visitors.”
A staff member added this is an effort to allow students to form an opinion for themselves during the election season and support the mission of the college.
“I think that for anybody, whenever you find yourself in difficult times or divisive times, your mission is your mandate. Ours is to provide quality higher education at this university, so we’re going to focus on that. Not just for the next week but we’ve made a decision for the next couple of months let’s just hit a brief pause on any partisan speaker or an activist,” said Dr. Rich McCarty, provost and vice president of academic affairs at Mercyhurst University.
