Fayetteville passes ordinance restricting where hemp and tobacco shops can be built

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – The City of Fayetteville on Monday passed an ordinance that would place restrictions on hemp and tobacco shops. The ordinance would prohibit the smoke shops from opening within 1,000 feet – which was originally 1,500, but changed during Monday night’s meeting to align with Cumberland County’s regulations – from places including schools, churches, parks, and daycares. Earlier this year, Councilman DJ Haire requested that city staff come up with an ordinance that would stop vape shops from opening near low-income communities, schools, and churches. Experts say it’s contributing to the increasing number of students vaping.
