East Fordham Road Walgreen’s is set to close Nov. 7. The Walgreens store, located at 406 E. Fordham Road, is one of the 1,200 stores nationwide seeing closures in the next three years after an announcement from the company. “Yeah, this is a big deal. They’re going to be closing about one out of every seven stores.” said Ted Rossman, senior industry analyst at Bankrate. A Walgreens spokesperson says business pressures “are weighing on our ability to cover the costs associated with rent, staffing and supply needs.” Many shoppers say the store was in a convenient location to buy household items, prescriptions and get good deals. They say they feel disappointed it’s closing. Rossman says this year is on track to be the worst year for store closures since the pandemic, but it’s not all bad news. “Even though it sounds alarming that this is the most store closures we’ve seen since 2020, it’s actually going to be less than we saw in more normal, pre-pandemic years. I mean, some of this is a natural part of the business cycle.” said Rossman. Shoppers there can now expect to pick up prescriptions at the 49 W. Fordham road location. The company says they intend to relocate employees affected by closures. ”
