After winning the CFDA award win for American Menswear Designer of the Year, Willy Chavarria stopped downtown to get his flowers. The designer was hosting an after party in collaboration with Byredo at East Village club-staurant Jean’s in celebration of American fashion, and the room was in a particularly celebratory mood.
Chavarria walked in the doors shortly before midnight Monday to a roomful of applause and cheering. “We did it, we did it,” the designer exclaimed, blowing the crowd a kiss. The designer, with husband David Ramirez by his side, fielded congratulations from friends as he posed in front of the red floral backdrop. Christian Siriano introduced Darren Criss to the designer, who immediately complimented the actor’s look — he was still in the cropped tuxedo jacket from the awards, although he had ditched the voluminous purple tulle skirt for the late-night celebration.
Many celebs had also changed from their red carpet looks, including several of Chavarria’s guests — Danny Ramirez, Omar Apollo and Precious Lee among them — who opted to swap their velvet suits from the awards dinner for more casual Willy Chavarria after party looks. (Juana Burga committed to her original cobalt look.)
