As our mailboxes, television screens and Google ads can attest, Election Day is just around the corner. With early voting now underway, Ohioans are being bombarded with political mail pieces and commercials, many negative and some designed to fuel division within our politics. While many voters dread this time of year for just that reason, the good news is that most Ohioans trust the system we have in place to cast and count ballots. Unfortunately, we don’t seem to trust members of the opposite political party − but together, we can work to change that by focusing on the facts. Ohio’s election system does not merely trust that votes are counted and reported properly, the many layers of bipartisan checks and balances throughout the system verify the election results are accurate.
A recent poll released by the bipartisan Democracy Defense Project found that 91% of Ohio voters are confident that our votes will be accurately cast and counted in the 2024 elections. Moreover, more than eight in ten are confident that Ohio’s process of casting and counting votes is secure from fraud, hacking and other technological threats.
