Severe storms forecast for Oklahoma tonight, Wednesday: See timeline for hail, heavy winds

It seems Mother Nature is whipping Oklahoma with one more round of hazardous weather before cooling off.

Central and western Oklahoma will face a chance of severe storms Tuesday night and Wednesday, with above-average rain expected over the next week.

Dangerous wind conditions in Oklahoma

According to the National Weather Service, Oklahoma could see wind gusts up to 40 or 50 mph are expectedTuesday, especially across western Oklahoma where drought, high temperatures and heavy wind have fed wildfires responsible for burning thousands of acres .

Thunderstorms could also bring large hail and damaging winds to western Oklahoma Tuesday night. On Wednesday, the fire risk will continue along with an increased risk for severe storms in central Oklahoma with a small chance for a tornado to form.

When will it rain?

Over the next week, however, State Climatologist Gary McManus said Oklahoma has a good chance to see above-average rainfall. Nearly 90% of the state is experiencing some level of drought , according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
