MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Dyer County correctional officer is being accused of attempting to smuggle contraband into the county jail.
The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office says that after an internal investigation, Tyrell Wallace, 40, was arrested and charged with Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Facility, Possession Schedule II Fentanyl With Intent (26 grams), Possession Schedule II Meth With Intent, Possession Schedule II Crack Cocaine With Intent, Possession Schedule III With Intent (8 Suboxone Strips), Possession Schedule VI With Intent (165 grams marijuana), and Possession of Firearm During Commission of Dangerous Felony (loaded 9mm pistol along with 40 rounds ammunition).
The sheriff’s office said the amount of fentanyl found was enough to kill a few hundred people, and the weapon-related charge against Wallace stems from a personal gun he had with him in a car. Sheriff Jeff Box noted that Wallace was not trying to smuggle the gun into the jail.
Wallace was fired from his job following the investigation. Sheriff Box said he had been working as a corrections officer for around three years.
