Twin Blends: Northwest Louisiana History Hunters takes a back to the Florentine Club at the Ogilvie-Wiener Mansion in photos from the Northwest Louisiana Archives at LSUS.
Built around 1896, this beautiful mansion offers a glimpse of life at the turn of the century.
728 Austen Place, a Victorian Queen Anne-style mansion, was home to the Florentine Supper Club from 1951 to around 1960.
Several people have asked us for photos of this ritzy club from the past, and now we have some! We discovered some incredible old pictures of the famous Florentine Club taken by Robert Menasco in 1952, just as it started, and some from Thurman Smith in 1960!
Although the Florentine Club is long gone, the historic house has survived a fire in 1957!
Thanks to Debbie Brewer Bryant for preserving this piece of Shreveport’s history. She recently hosted a fun pre-Halloween walking tour of the 9,000-square-foot historic mansion in downtown Shreveport.
