( WJET/WFXP ) – Police are investigating Tuesday morning after a man was struck and killed by a train in the City of Erie.
First responders were called to the train tracks near West 12th and Cherry streets around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 29 for reports of a man run over by an oncoming train.
Erie police, fire department and EmergyCare could be seen surrounding the stopped train, shining flashlights and inspecting underneath several of the rail cars.
Deputy Chief Rick Lorah, City of Erie Police Department, said the victim was found by himself at the scene, and police will look at surveillance video in the area.
Lorah added more saying the major crimes unit was on the scene and continues to investigate.
Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook was called to the scene as well.
