Steve Bannon Released from Prison

Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon was released from prison on Tuesday after serving a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress. Bannon had refused to comply with a subpoena from the House committee investigating the January 6th Capitol attack.

Bannon’s Political Prisoner Claims

After his release, Bannon recorded a podcast episode where he proclaimed himself a “political prisoner.” He asserted that his time in prison had made him stronger and more focused.

Ongoing Legal Troubles

Bannon’s legal woes are not over. He faces charges in a separate New York state case for allegedly defrauding donors to a fundraising campaign to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.

Previous Pardons and Trump’s Candidacy

Bannon was previously convicted in a similar federal case but was pardoned by former President Donald Trump. However, Trump would not have the authority to pardon Bannon in the New York case if he were re-elected as president.
