BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Eight Louisiana law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty during 2023 will be honored by the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement in a special Medal of Honor ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
“The Louisiana Law Enforcement Medal of Honor was established in 1997 to recognize the service and ultimate sacrifice made by law enforcement officers for the protection and safety of the citizens of Louisiana,” said the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement in a news release.
According to a news release, the following officers that will be commemorated during the ceremony include the following.
- Senior Police Officer Trevor Aron Abney, New Orleans Police Department.
- Cpl. Scotty W. Canezaro, Baton Rouge Police Department.
- Deputy Marshal Barry Paul Giglio, Ville Platte City Marshal’s Office.
- Cpl. Shawn Kevin Kelly, Denham Springs Police Department.
- Officer Carl Douglas Kimball, St. Francisville Police Department.
- Deputy Marylin Anjanette Mayo, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
- Detective Sgt. Nicholas Pepper, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
- Sgt. David J. Poirrier, Baton Rouge Police Department.
