U.S. Postal Service Woman Killed By 15-Year-Old In Another Example of Chicago’s Battle With Gun Violence

In another heartbreaking case of escalating gun violence in Chicago , a 15-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of U.S. Postal Service mail carrier, Octavia Redmond.

Redmond, a 48-year-old wife and mother , was delivering mail in her neighborhood on July 19 when the suspect allegedly exited a stolen vehicle and shot her multiple times at close range, according to law enforcement .

Despite emergency responders’ efforts, Redmond later succumbed to her injuries .

The juvenile suspect , whose identity has not been released due to his age , was apprehended on Monday, Oct. 28, 2024 , in a joint effort by the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshal Service following a two-month investigation .

Officials report that evidence links the suspect to the stolen Dodge Durango and the crime , intensifying the spotlight on gun violence affecting many communities in the city.
