In a 2 ½ hour virtual session, the Illinois and Iowa Departments of Transportation hosted a public explanation of plans for the Interstate 80 Mississippi River Bridge, a timeline for the project, and took comments from people in attendance.
As part of the Interstate 80 Mississippi River Bridge study, the online hearing included a video and renderings of the proposed bridge. A project team said that a path for bicycles and pedestrians has received strong public support.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028. On the Iowa side, two residential relocations will be required, and one will be required on the Illinois side. Species of threatened or endangered bats and mussels may be affected.
An in-person open house will be held at LeClaire City Hall, 325 Wisconsin St., LeClaire, Iowa, on Wednesday, Oct. 30, with the public welcome at any time between 1 and 3 p.m. The in-person opportunity will include continuous video presentations, exhibit boards, opportunities to speak with representatives of the project team and provide feedback. No formal presentation will be given.
