CLARKE COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed one and seriously injured others.
According to an emailed media release from VSP Sergeant Brent W. Coffey, the incident occurred October 26, 2024 in Bluemont, just south of River View Farm Lane.
At 7:54 p.m., a 2003 Toyota Avalon was traveling south in the northbound lane of River Road when it suddenly swerved right, ran off the roadway, and collided with a tree. The vehicle then caught fire.
The driver, Dillion Michael Coe, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Winchester Medical Center for treatment.
A 26-year-old male also suffered minor injuries. A 16-year-old female passenger, Makayla Baker, suffered life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to Winchester Medical Center for treatment.
A third passenger, 16-year-old Madison (Maddi) Baker, died at the scene.
Due to the extent of the fire damage, it’s undetermined if anyone was wearing a seatbelt.
