CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) – A new lifesaving program is living up to its name. A Mechanicsburg man is the first person to survive because of it. An awards ceremony for those involved was held on Tuesday at the Upper Allen Fire Department.
The 4 Minute City Program started rolling out Avive Solutions Automatic External Defibrillators, or AEDs, to Cardiac Arrest Rapid Engagement, or CARE, team members in December 2023. 300 of these devices are connected to the 911 center. The operator can send an alert to AEDs that are within a mile from a cardiac arrest patient.
“The device will display a map and ask that individual to bring it to the patient in cardiac arrest to help to save their life,” says Avive Solutions Vice President of Strategy & Business Development Meir Berkman.

Berkman says the devices are designed to be used by people who have never been trained on an AED before. He says a patient’s best chance of survival is a nearby civilian who can help.
