Apple Valley man shot to death at Los Angeles County park and ride

An Apple Valley man died after he was shot at a Los Angeles County park and ride on Monday morning, authorities said.

Nicholas Moody, 26, died in the 6:20 a.m. shooting at the Pathfinder Road Park and Ride, at Pathfinder Road and the 57 Freeway in Diamond Bar, according to California Highway Patrol officials and Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

Moody was shot following a “verbal altercation” with the attacker, the CHP said in a written statement.

“After the shooting, (Moody) fled the scene by driving westbound on Pathfinder Road,” the statement said. “However, due to his injuries, (he) lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a concrete wall on Pathfinder Road, over State Route 57.”

The victim succumbed to his wounds at the scene, officials said.

A passenger who had been sitting in the passenger seat of Moody’s car was not hurt, according to the CHP.

A person was detained in connection with the shooting hours later following a SWAT standoff in La Verne, however no further details were available Tuesday.
