SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The murder charges against three 16-year-olds accused of inadvertently shooting their 15-year-old friend will be handled in criminal court as opposed to the more secretive family court.
The three teenagers were arraigned Tuesday on charges recently indicted by an Onondaga County Grand Jury.
The indictment accuses Torrin Brown, Quintonne Moore, and Uzziah Murray of murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of stolen property.
As a group, the three are accused of shooting a fourth member of their group , 15-year-old Deron McGee Jr.
Prosecutors say the group was firing a gun outside of a stolen vehicle at people outside of Parkside Commons Apartments. The complex is a few blocks from the intersection of Erie Boulevard and Teall Avenue in Syracuse.
A source told NewsChannel 9 that the stolen vehicle was a Hyundai Sonata taken from the parking lot of Destiny USA.
Onondaga County Court Judge Matthew Doran permitted NewsChannel 9 to record the proceedings, giving the community its first look at the young suspects.
