Louisiana has broken its all-time record for in-person early voting, Secretary of State Nancy Landry announced Wednesday.
Landry said 849,784 voters cast their ballots for the Nov. 5 presidential during the 10-day in-person early voting period with a single-day record of 103,456 on the final day Oct. 29.
The previous records were 817,957 total and 99,004 single day during the 2020 presidential election.
āIām pleased that so many Louisianans have already made their voices heard in this election,ā Landry said.
Registered Republicans have dominated early voting in a dramatic turnaround from previous elections, including 2020.
Prominent Louisiana pollster and political analyst John Couvillon said Republicans have out voted Democrats by 9% in the 2024 election. That compares to the Democrats with a 7% advantage in 2020. The percentage of Black voters casting early ballots also dropped from 30% in 2020 to 25% in 2024.
“It”s a much more Republican-friendly electorate for early voting than in the past and Republicans dominated in all 10 days, which is unprecedented,” Couvillon said Wednesday in an interview with USA Today Network. “That tells me that Republicans, who overall previously preferred Election Day voting, have fully embraced early voting, while Democratic engagement and enthusiasm has slipped.”
