MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The 2025 Alabama legislative session is under four months away.
Some lawmakers and state leaders are already making plans, including Gov. Kay Ivey.
“We mean business when we talk about students’ education,” Ivey said as the keynote speaker at a Kiwanis Club meeting in Montgomery. “We’re making the largest investment in our students in the state’s history.”
That investment remains her number one priority. With two legislative sessions left in her term, Ivey touted a record-breaking education trust fund budget. She said public safety is among her other priorities, citing the success of Montgomery’s Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit.
“A safe Alabama is a secure future for Alabama,” Ivey said. “And a secured future is our goal.”
But some lawmakers have other initiatives.
State Rep. Terri Collins (R-Decatur) said she is working on a committee to improve how our schools are funded. She said right now, the money schools receive is based on student head count and not individual student needs.
