Kentucky is trying to keep a secret from Josh Heupel and the Vols ahead of Wildcats’ showdown with Tennessee

The Kentucky Wildcats are exhibiting some gamesmanship ahead of their showdown with the Tennessee Vols in Knoxville this weekend.

Kentucky is playing coy when it comes to announcing a starting quarterback for their matchup against Tennessee.

Georgia transfer Brock Vandagriff, who has been operating as the Wildcats’ starting quarterback, was sent to the bench in the second half of Kentucky’s loss to the Auburn Tigers last weekend in favor of Gavin Wimsatt.

Wimsatt didn’t exactly light up the stat sheet, completing 3-of-10 passes for 34 yards and a touchdown (he also rushed for 23 yards on nine attempts).

Kentucky hasn’t announced if it’ll be Vandagriff or Wimsatt that gets the start against Tennessee on Saturday night — even though the decision has already been made according to Vandagriff.

“They’ve told us the (quarterback) plan,” said Vandagriff on Tuesday. “I don’t know if it’s the best idea to [put] that out there. But like I said, we know the plan. Even if we didn’t know the plan, Gavin’s a great kid. Love him in the quarterback room as well. Really everyone in the quarterback room’s good dudes…we all know the plan. We’re all going to go in there, whether it’s a crazy plan [or] not a crazy plan, whatever it is, and attack practice every day.”
