The man who St. Paul police shot in the Midway Monday night was actually wanted by police in Minneapolis in connection to two shootings this week.
One shooting was at a homeless encampment Sunday, and another on Monday on the 3500 block of Columbus Avenue.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara says Minneapolis shared information on the suspect after the two shooting incidents with law enforcement across the state.
St. Paul police officers took the suspect into custody Monday night after responding to reports of shots fired near the Hamline-Midway neighborhood. St. Paul police shot the man after he pointed a gun at his own head, and then at officers, according to the St. Paul Police Department.
The man has been identified asĀ 40-year old Earl Bennett who is allegedly responsible for the two shootings in Minneapolis which included three homicides and three injured people.
Community activists in St. Paul called for the immediate release of body cam footage at a rally at St. Paul City Hall on Tuesday, but that was before this latest information was released by Minneapolis Police connecting the man to two prior shootings.
