NTSB report released on Outer Banks plane crash that killed 6-year-old, 4 adults

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) — The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on the September plane crash on the Outer Banks that killed five people, including a 6-year-old child.

The NTSB says the pilot of the Cirrus Design Corp SR22 plane didn’t send any distress signals before the crash into the tree line near First Flight Airport in Kill Devil Hills at 5:18 p.m. It happened about eight minutes after takeoff on Sept. 28, while the pilot made a second approach on the runway at First Flight.

The report doesn’t provide many additional details into the cause but noted that the crash and subsequent explosion and fire destroyed most of the cockpit equipment on board.
