Fort Campbell soldier killed in I-24 motorcycle crash

OAK GROVE, Ky. (WKRN) — Fort Campbell Staff Sgt. Alan Raul Gonzalez, a resident of Oak Grove, was killed in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 24 in late October, authorities said.

At age 28, Gonzalez was an artillery battery gunnery sergeant assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

“Our entire team is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Staff Sgt. Gonzalez,” said Lt. Col. Charles Thompson, 3-320th battalion commander. “Alan was a valued teammate and exemplary leader – in fact he was already pending promotion to Sergeant First Class due to his outstanding performance.”

Gonzalez arrived for his second tour at Fort Campbell in December 2022. His awards and decorations include the Air Assault Badge, Expert Soldier Badge, Army Commendation Medal (awarded three times), Army Achievement Medal (awarded seven times), Army Good Conduct Medal (awarded three times), National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
