Ojai resident surprised with car, year of service from Ventura auto shop

An Ojai resident, whose mother was struck by a van and killed earlier this year, was gifted a car as part of a Ventura repair shop’s annual giveaway Tuesday.

Concours Motors’ Wheels to Shine program surprised 20-year-old Caleb Hester with a 2003 Mercedes E 320 and one year of free maintenance for the vehicle. The owners held a ceremony at the shop to announce to Hester that he was chosen as the recipient of their eighth annual car giveaway.

He and his seven siblings tragically lost their mother, Lisa, in July . She was on her daily walk, as part of her morning routine before homeschooling her children, when a motorist ran a red light and struck her with his vehicle along Highway 33.

Hester was joined by his family, friends and fiancée, Maya Norris, in the three-door garage. He graduated from Pepperdine University in April and plans to apply to medical school in the spring.

“I didn’t know about this until just tonight,” he said addressing the crowd. He was nominated by a longtime family friend Fawn Parish.
