This is similar to a S’more cookie bar…but not quite. We’ve added applesauce to the mix to make it the perfect soft, moist texture to complement those ooey, gooey, marshmallows. This is all you’ll need to make an 9 x 9 pan:
Ingredients:
- 2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup canola, vegetable oil, or applesauce
- 1 egg, at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2-1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1-2 cups marshmallows
- flaky sea salt
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat, cooking until it begins to brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and transfer to a large bowl, allowing it to sit for 10-15 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
Add the brown sugar, maple syrup, applesauce, egg, and vanilla to the browned butter, whisking until combined. Mix in the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt, then fold in the chocolate chips.
