Unique piece of real estate goes up for sale in Erie

Tucked away in the eastern portion of Presque Isle State Park lies a peaceful, fully furnished open concept unit.

It’s a property complete with unique views and beautiful sunsets, but you have to use a boat to get there.

“This is houseboat number seven on Horseshoe Pond. It listed at 269 and the original structure was built in 1952. There was an addition put on in 2010,” said Jake Scheloske, vice president of sales for Agresti Real Estate. “A lot of times they get passed down from family to family so they rarely ever become on the market.”

The catch is the structure is not a piece of real estate.

This means buyers can’t use traditional financing, leaving cash as one of the only options.

There’s also no transfer or real estate tax.

All the houseboats were brought into Horseshoe Pond in the 1960s. There’s 24 of them and that’s all there will ever be, which is what makes this such a rare and special opportunity.”

“Some of them were owned by very famous people actually Jackson Kohler and a guy named Laurie B who’s in the Baseball Hall of Fame,” said Mike Hirsch, owner of the houseboat since 2001. “This time of year everybody putting their boats away. We’re still enjoying ours. It really is a year-round thing too.”
