Walking in stride, hundreds of people joined in Oct. 26 in Bluffton to help find ways to end a disease affecting families throughout the Lowcountry and around the nation. Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, which is a leading cause of death in the United States, said Ashton Houghton, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association South Carolina Chapter. There are also more than 11 million family members and friends providing care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
