After a quarter-century of high-octane entertainment, Irwindale Speedway and Events Center Inc. will hold its final race on December 21, marking the end of an era for Southern California’s racing community. The facility’s assets and 2025 events will transition to Kern Raceway in Bakersfield, according to an official announcement .
“The Irwindale Speedway has been more than just a racetrack, it has been a part of our community’s identity,” says Irwindale Mayor Albert F. Ambriz. The city administration has indicated its commitment to developing the property with “community-oriented projects that benefit the residents.”
The closure, confirmed by the City of Irwindale on October 30, follows public discussions dating back to September. The San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership noted on X that the Irwindale City Council had been holding meetings about repurposing the speedway since at least September 27.
ISEC President Tim Huddleston reflected on the venue’s significance: “On behalf of my wife Lisa and our partners Bob and Maureen Bruncati, we extend heartfelt thanks to our fans, racers, sponsors and the City of Irwindale for their unwavering support over the past 25 years. We’re grateful for every moment and memory we’ve shared as a community.”
The facility will maintain its regular schedule through December, featuring signature events including the Nitro Revival on November 8 and 9, and the popular Thursday Night Thunder dragstrip event on December 5. The Mooneyes Christmas Party, set for December 7, will combine drag races with live entertainment and a classic car show.
