A Veterans Day full of patriotism, honor and activities is returning to downtown Montgomery on Nov. 11.
“This is the first year back,” said Veterans Day parade coordinator Barbara Clark. “I think everybody is pretty excited about it.”
The celebration is being presented by Mayor Steven L. Reed and the city of Montgomery, and the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs, which estimates there are 377,310 veterans living in the state .
The parade will march down Dexter Avenue in downtown Montgomery from 9 to 11 a.m. with Sandra Lucas, assistant commissioner of outreach and engagement for the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs, as grand marshal.
After the parade, a resource fair will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. nearby at Riverwalk Stadium, 200 Coosa St., the home of the Montgomery Biscuits baseball team. This is an opportunity for veterans and their families to connect with organizations that offer valuable resources and support services.
“Food trucks will be available outside,” said Clark, who works with the nonprofit group Sweetpea Homes Inc. — which provides shelter, support and home for Montgomery’s homeless veterans.
