Motorcyclist dies after weekend crash in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — A 51-year-old motorcyclist has died from injuries suffered in a crash that occurred on Sunday, the Knoxville Police Department announced on Thursday.

KPD said the victim, who has not been identified, died Wednesday night at the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he had been taken from the crash scene Sunday. The multivehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Washington Pike and Greenway Drive in front of a Target store. KPD responded to the crash at around 5 p.m.

“The investigation revealed that the Chevy SUV turned left into the path of the motorcycle, which subsequently struck the SUV,” KPD’s news release stated. “The driver was then thrown into the roadway. The light was green for both the Chevy SUV and motorcycle. Speed or alcohol were also not believed to be contributing factors.”

KPD also said that the driver and two passengers in the Chevy sustained minor injuries in the crash. The driver has been cited for failure to yield, and no additional charges have been filed at this time.
