Record Breaking Temperatures Possible Across Parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey

Near-Record Breaking Temperatures in New York City Today

10/31/24 09:45am ET

Good morning everyone. We’re waking up this morning to a very mild start for this time of year. This will help springboard us into the unseaonably mild to warm category today ahead of that powerful cold front well-off to our west.

In some cases, record temperatures will fall today by 1-2 degrees depending on your location across parts of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. In the New York City area, our current record of 81 degrees set in 1946 is probably safe, with Central Park getting into the upper 70’s. However, areas just west of Manhattan such as Newark and Jersey City, could reach or surpass 80 degrees.

The best chance to see 80 degrees in New York City will be downtown Brooklyn and upper Queens away from the ocean influence. Southwest winds will help keep south-facing shores cooler as highs reach into the 60’s and 70’s, especially out on Long Island.

For interior parts of the Northeast, we’ll have widespread upper 60’s and 70’s across a wide range, even in areas that are typically cooler. Mild weather will continue tomorrow as that cold front nears with some clouds and scattered showers; then we drop into the 50-60 degree range for your weekend with sunshine returning.
