A Springfield couple has been arrested a second time and faces further criminal charges after a “heinous environment” was discovered at their home, where they allegedly subjected their young children to physical abuse, including regular use of a Taser.
According to the Springfield Police Department, an investigation began in mid-September when officers received a report concerning a young boy with visible injuries. The Department of Human Services and police officials identified the boy’s parents as suspects in an ongoing investigation, revealing evidence of physical abuse that reportedly included the use of a Taser.
Through an investigation, detectives learned both parents had physically abused their son on at least two separate occasions by using the stun gun on him as a form of discipline, according to a release issued by the SPD.
Both suspects also allegedly menaced their daughter , the boy’s younger sister, on multiple occasions with the Taser.
On Oct. 4, both parents were arrested at their residence. They were arraigned on charges at a Lane County Circuit Court on Oct. 7. Those charges would later be amended to include several more counts of assault, menacing, and unlawful use of a weapon following an extensive investigation by SPD.
