A Hialeah teen’s double vehicular homicide trial has been postponed because, unfortunately, a third victim has died.
15-year-old Maykoll Santiesteban’s attorney Scott Kotler telling the court Wednesday he is not ready for trial as he anticipates the state will file another homicide charge due to the third death.
Santiesteban is accused of taking his parent’s car on a highspeed joyride that led to a deadly collision that killed two women and injured a third who has since passed.
Judge Christine Hernandez ordered new trial date of February 10th.
Santiesteban is being tried as an adult and will remain behind bars as he awaits trial.
Before the third victim’s death, the state had offered a plea deal of 10 years if the teen expressed remorse. That deal was declined and now an additional homicide charge is expected.
