Brooklyn man indicted for striking woman, 19, while performing dangerous amateur car stunts on LI: DA

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 20-year-old man was indicted for assault and other related charges after he struck a 19-year-old woman while allegedly performing dangerous amateur car stunts on Long Island earlier this month,
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced Thursday.

Matthew Mitchell, 20, of Brooklyn, was arraigned on assault, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, reckless endangerment, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and reckless driving charges.

According to court documents, at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Oct 6, a large group of vehicles and people gathered at the Gateway Plaza in Patchogue to participate or observe individuals performing “doughnuts,” drifting, and other amateur car stunts.

That night, there were several locations throughout Suffolk and Nassau counties where groups of vehicles and people were performing similar stunts and driving maneuvers, officials said.

Witnesses observed, recorded, and posted these stunts on social media, authorities said.
