COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) – Recovery efforts are still underway after Hurricane Helene’s impact a month ago. The state of South Carolina and FEMA are working together to cleanup after the hurricane.
FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer, Brett Howard, said FEMA has approved a total of $1.4 billion in Helene recovery efforts across the country.
“Currently at the 30 day mark, we had nearly 5,000 employees from FEMA and other federal agencies working with our state partners in all the affected areas,” Howard said.
Howard said he recognizes that there is much more to do and wants to reassure people that FEMA’s help and support is not going anywhere.
“We alongside our survivors in our state are here for the long haul,” Howard said. “We’re not going anywhere. We’re going to make sure that we see this mission through.”
Howard said FEMA members are going door to door to help, but people should be wary of scammers.
FEMA has received a few calls about residents being approached by people pretending to work for the agency. He said to call 911.
