Death ruled homicide after man found on sidewalk in Erie’s east side

The death of a man found on the sidewalk in the 1000 block of East 26th Street has been ruled a homicide.

Deputy Erie Police Department Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said the man was found just after 11 p.m. on Wednesday. He was officially pronounced dead at the hospital around midnight.

Lorah added it appeared the man had been assaulted.

As of Thursday night, Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook has identified the victim as a 31-year-old Erie man. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
