A man was pronounced dead at the hospital after a shooting near Spring Lake on Thursday afternoon, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.
The shooting was reported just after 4 p.m. in the 1300 block of Atomic Drive off Spring Avenue in a neighborhood behind the Spring Lake Walmart.
The Sheriff’s Office withheld the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin. A news release said the circumstances of the shooting are under investigation. The release did not note if a suspect was arrested.
Thursday’s shooting is the second homicide investigation on Atomic Drive for the Sheriff’s Office this year. On March 17, Beverly Williams, 50, died after being stabbed a day earlier in her home there. Her boyfriend is charged with her killing.
