Men on abortion: ‘Not just for dads with daughters’

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – In the final push before Election Day, abortion amendment sponsor Dakotans for Health has formed a coalition of men who support abortion rights and are encouraging other men to vote yes.

Will Bushee, co-chair of “Men for Freedom Amendment G,” has been involved with the organization since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022. One of the reasons Bushee is passionate about reproductive and women’s rights is because he has a 21-year-old daughter.

“As a father, we would go to any extent for any of our children to make sure they’re healthy and that anything that needed to happen would,” Bushee said during an Wednesday news conference. “Of course, you know, in South Dakota, that’s just not an option.”

Ryan Otto, co-chair for the coalition, is also the father to two daughters, but he said his reasons for joining are bigger than fatherhood. Over the last couple of years, he noticed a lack of men in supportive spaces for women’s rights. He added that there seems to be a hesitancy for men to speak out about abortion.
