Madison man sentenced to prison for sixth drunk-driving offense

CHIPPEWA FALLS — A Madison man has been ordered to serve 18 months in prison and three years of extended supervision after he was convicted of his sixth drunken-driving offense.

Kenneth W. Lewis, 40, was charged in July 2022 in Chippewa County Court with OWI-6, operating while revoked, possession of narcotic drugs, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. He later skipped court hearings and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Lewis entered a no contest plea Wednesday to OWI-6. In addition to the prison sentence, Judge James Isaacson revoked Lewis’ driver’s license for three years and ordered him to pay a $2,309 fine. As conditions of his extended supervision, Lewis cannot consume alcohol or enter taverns. Lewis also must submit a DNA sample. The sentence is concurrent to any other sentence Lewis is serving. The other charges were read-in and dismissed.

According to the criminal complaint, two Chippewa County deputies responded to a call of a vehicle stuck in a ditch at 7:35 p.m. July 4, 2022, along Highway T, north of Highway 29. The male driver, identified as Lewis, was out of his vehicle and waiting for someone to come pick him up.
