New Mexican restaurant opens in Fort Myers, taking over Stevie Tomato’s former spot

Jesus Plascencia is getting used to the reactions.

“Everyone is surprised when they come in,” he said, referring to his family’s newest Mr. Tequila location in Fort Myers. “It looks completely different.”

Does it ever.

Mr. Tequila opened Sept. 29 in the space previously occupied by Stevie Tomato’s (and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop before that) in Colonial Commons off Colonial Boulevard near Winkler Avenue.

“It took us 10 months,” Plascencia said. “Most everything is new. Even in the kitchen.”

The sports bar vibe is completely gone, replaced by a sea of lovely blue and white tile on the floors and walls, electric blue and gold padded benches and chairs and a gorgeous S-shaped-and-more sparkling white bar.

Every table features unique and vibrant art depicting everything from Day of the Dead to wildlife to farming scenes.

Instagram-worthy stations everywhere you look — from neon-lit and winged walls of green on the outdoor patio to a royal red birthday throne inside the dining room.

It’s all light, bright, eye-catching fun.
