The implications of Alabama’s district two race and the future of the nation

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Caroleene Dobson and Shomari Figures are competing for the newly re-drawn congressional District Two seat in the US House of Representatives.

With days left until the general election, candidates are telling undecided voters what they should know- and how the effects of this down ballot race stretch beyond the borders of our state.

“I’m not a D.C. insider- I’m not part of a political dynasty like my opponent,” said Dobson at a campaign event.

“Do you want somebody that’s gonna go up there, and just scream and shout about national issues?” Figures asked at a campaign presser.

Both Dobson and Figures are making a final pitch to voters, and as political analyst Steve Flowers explains, this seat could very well determine which party controls the House of Representatives. “The margin in Washington is so narrow in the House of Representatives,” said Flowers. “It’s like five seats out of 435- this seat flipping from a Republican in Alabama to a Democratic seat will be one they’re watching.”
