Knoxville’s Island Home neighborhood attracts trick-or-treaters from far and wide

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — As the leaves change colors, so comes the time for kids and their families to get their costumes picked out and candy buckets ready for Halloween. In the Island Home neighborhood, homes go all out with decorations for the expected more than 1,000 people showing up.

“I think somewhere between 1,800 to 2,000,” Island Home resident Teresa Walker said. “It’s great weather and we had about 1,800 last year.”

Homeowners who live in different, less-traveled, sections of the neighborhood descend on Island Home Boulevard where most of the trick-or-treating action is.

“I’ve only been here three and a half years,” Island Home resident Jessica Rochelle said. “I live facing Island Home Avenue and the trick-or-treaters don’t go that far so we decided to come down here.”

Some people even coming from different states to get in on Knoxville’s trick-or-treating scene.

“I came from Pennsylvania. My sister lives here. My daughter goes to school here,” Melinda Black said. “This is my eighth year to spend Halloween in Knoxville because it’s fun and beautiful. It feels like you’re on the set of a Halloween movie. An old-fashioned family style Halloween movie.”
