(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Halloween is now over, which means you and your family might have more candy than you know what to do with. While the sweet treats are yummy, sometimes they’re best in moderation.
At the Springs Dentistry, you can now save your teeth from cavities by swapping Halloween candy for cash. They’re buying candy back from the community, and donating it to organizations like the Springs Rescue Mission.
They’ve been doing their candy buyback for about 10 years, and say you don’t have to be a Springs Dentistry patient to turn a profit. They’ll give all trick-or-treaters one dollar for every pound of candy donated.
Last year, they collected over 500 pounds of candy. Some people donated their extra candy bags without taking the cash.
Since they had so much in 2023, they were able to donate the sweets to several different groups.
“We couldn’t donate it to just one place. Typically, we do the Springs Rescue mission , but we also donated it to Operation Gratitude , so we give it to the troops and some other organizations throughout the community,” said Dr. Jessica Duru, at the Springs Dentistry. “We also have employees here that donate their time for the homeless, so they made some bags up and gave it to the homeless as well.”
