Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms Developing Across Parts of Texas

Severe Weather Possible Across Parts of Oklahoma & Kansas

11/1/24 4:41pm ET

Good afternoon everyone. As forecasted and discussed, we are starting to watch the evolution of our hazardous weather expected over the course of the next couple of days in the form of heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Today and tonight, we watch tropical moisture come ashore into parts of south Texas with scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms; some of which are bringing much-needed soaking rains. Eventually, we will watch that energy come in from both the Gulf of Mexico and up from Mexico itself, then into the Southwest and Midwest.

What may seem promising due to drought conditions, will become a problem in terms of flooding due to copious amounts of rain falling on dry soil that can’t absorb it fast enough. With heavy thunderstorms expected across New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma, we have flood watches posted in regards.

We may also have a severe weather component to this, with the risk of embedded severe possible across areas of eastern New Mexico, the panhandle of Texas, northeast Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Look for the risk of locally damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain.
