Mental health center, app aim to improve behavior of Denver youth

The Safety, Housing, Education and Homelessness Committee of the Denver City Council learned Wednesday about programs aiming to improve the mental health of Denver youth.

The city is exploring creating an app for children that will help them track their mental health. Officials also want to create a youth-led mental health center at Rude Recreation Center.

Last year the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment launched the Youth Resiliency Liaison Program in Denver Public Schools. Its goal is to develop relationships with students struggling with behavioral issues to discover what is driving the problems and connect them to resources. Liaisons operate in selected middle and high schools, according to a presentationaccording to a presentation to the committee. A total of 240 people were connected to services as of April 2024. The program will be funded a second year with American Rescue Plan Act funding, according to the presentation, and DDPHE hopes to scale up the approach district wide.
