OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (WKRN) — After a Metro councilmember called out the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) because he felt there was not enough traffic enforcement, data from MNPD showed an uptick in traffic stops.
Traffic stops spiked by nearly 60% last week compared to the week before, increasing from 496 to 791. Councilmember Jeff Eslick told News 2 that he considers speeding the top issue across Davidson County.

In light of this change, Eslick said that he is hoping to enact more traffic safety measures in Metro’s 11th District, which encompasses the Old Hickory and Hermitage areas.
“We really need to make it safe for all 526 miles of Davidson County,” said Eslick. “…I’m absolutely for the police, but I do feel like we have to hold everybody accountable. And in this instance, it did take a little rattling of the cage to get this to happen.”
Eslick says he personally thanked MNPD Chief John Drake and Captain Raymond Jones for their cooperation. He hopes to build on this positive development by doubling down on more resources.
