Woman charged with accessory after the fact in murder of 7-year-old in North Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department said that they have arrested and charged a woman in connection to the June 2024 murder of 7-year-old Zion Gibbs.

Police said Thursday that they arrested 19-year-old Sierra Chambers. She has been charged with accessory after the fact.

On June 7, around 12:10 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 800 block of Danish Drive. Police said that multiple shots were fired into a home, striking a juvenile occupant later identified as Gibbs. He was transported to the hospital and died three days later from his injuries.

In August, detectives said that they located and seized a vehicle, a gray Chrysler 200, suspected to be involved. The vehicle had a single bullet hole in the right passenger door and a medium-sized dent in the driver’s door.

The firearm used in the incident was also forensically linked to another unrelated case outside of the Fayetteville Police Department’s jurisdiction, officials said in an earlier statement.
