COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Georgia has hit a significant election milestone. As of late Thursday afternoon, more than half of the registered voters in the Peach State have already cast early ballots in advance of Tuesday’s election.
More than 3.65 million Georgia voters have already gone to the polls in 18 days of early in-person voting.
Here in Muscogee County we are approaching that halfway point. More than 55,000 of the county’s 124,000 registered voters have voted.
We all know that it’s election workers who have to process all those votes. WRBL wants to introduce you to a man who has served this nation in combat and is now on the front lines of another battle – the 2024 election.
“Voting means you have a say so in how your government works.”
Meet 79-year-old Willie Luke Jones. If you have voted at the City Services Center in Columbus, you probably already have met him.
“We actually call him Mr. Willie,” said Nancy Boren, Muscogee County Director of Elections and Registrations . “He has a smile for everyone who comes up. He talks them through the process and gives them their ‘I voted’ sticker.”
